Methodist Retreat Center at Camp Pecometh Queen Anne’s County, Maryland A 48 room retreat center for the Methodist Church at Camp Pecometh along the Chester River in Queen Anne’s County. The project included a 10 year master plan for site and building improvements to the various camp related functions throughout the 200 acre site. The retreat center is approximately 26,500 sf and consists of four guest cottages and a welcome center for reception, dining for 125 people, administration, public lobby, and meeting rooms. The various parts of the project are arranged around an existing "meadow" of wild flowers that connect the center and frame the view to the river's edge. For this project we considered the orientation of the building elements to take advantage of light and breezes, screen porches, good tree planting to provide sun protection in the summer, and well placed windows to allow natural light and ventilation. Notre Dame of Maryland University School of Pharmacy Baltimore, Maryland A new 35,000 s.f. School of Pharmacy within new and existing facilities on campus, implemented in three phases. Phase 1 consisted of reorganizing various departments in the existing science building and utilizing 6,000 s.f. of shell space to accommodate the Dean's suite. Phase 2 consisted of the renovation of 14,800 s.f. in the existing science building. This involved some reorganization of existing science department space and overall upgrades to classroom, lab and office space. Phase 3 consisted of a 25,600 s.f. new building next to the existing science building to include classrooms, labs and faculty offices. The project achieved a LEED Silver certification. University of Maryland Smith School of Business Career Center College Park, Maryland A 5,500 s.f. addition to and 7,000 s.f. renovation of the south tower of Van Munching Hall to accommodate the expanding needs of the Office of Career Management. The project included administrative office space in the addition and new interview rooms, an employer lounge, public lobby, and student prep area in the renovation. The design concept involved the creation and roll out of a new image for the Career Center that projected the values of the Smith School, promoted the interaction between the students and prospective employers, and provided a positive impression for users of the Center. Cordish Company Office Interiors and Architecture Baltimore, Maryland Cordish is a Baltimore based real estate development company with projects throughout the United States. In 1997 they were awarded the right to develop the Power Plant at the Baltimore Inner Harbor where they decided to relocate their corporate office. The project involved shell design to create a main floor and mezzanines, office layout and planning, a teleconferencing center, custom design for furnishings and work stations, built-in millwork items, display systems, and custom lighting. One of the existing smokestakes acts as the core element for a winding stainless steel stair that connects the 5th and 6th floors of the office space, including mezzanines on both floors. Towson University Cook Library Lobby Towson, Maryland The renovation of 3,800 s.f. of interior space in the lobby adjacent to the Cook Library to accommodate a new café, lobby seating, information center, security and access control for the library. The project included new storefronts and entry doors, information kiosks, custom light fixtures, electronic message boards, security cameras, optical turnstiles, and door access controls. The project was done as a task order under an Indefinite Delivery Contract with the University of Baltimore Procurement Center. Completed: September 2006 Client: Towson University Cost: $813,000 |

MuniMae Financial Corporate Offices Baltimore, Maryland Interior design for 22,000 s.f. of corporate office space in the Pier 4 Building on Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. The project included programming, office layout and planning, furniture selection and procurement, audio/visual, voice/data, and new artwork throughout the public areas. The project also incorporated principles of design management, where overall systems were organized in “layers” to facilitate cost cutting if the project came in over budget. This kept the project on schedule throughout a very truncated delivery of not more than 12 weeks for programming through the completion of construction documents. Morgan State University Executive Dining Facility Baltimore, Maryland The conversion of an existing 2,600 s.f. rooftop greenhouse into a conference/meeting/dining facility with commercial kitchen support. The work was competitively bid as a design/build project by Morgan State University and the MD Department of General Services based on a schematic design prepared by MSU. Plano-Coudon, LLP (design/builder contractors) won the bid and completed the project from the team’s implementation design and construction documents. The work included space planning, interior and exterior lighting, kitchen design, finishes, sun control, MEP coordination, and accessibility design. Johns Hopkins University Dunning Hall Renovation Baltimore, Maryland The renovation of 15,400 s.f. of space on four floors of Dunning Hall. The existing laboratory building was gutted and reconfigured to house twelve traditional and seminar style classrooms. The project included space planning for classrooms and seminar rooms, audio/visual and data/tel planning for each new classroom, and public amenities. The project also included the conversion of a large lab in the basement into a climate controlled storage area for the JHU Archaeology collection. Mechanical improvements included the disassembling and removal of the existing air handling unit and installation of a new air handling unit on the fourth floor and attic. To access the mechanical areas, a significant section of the building exterior skin was selectively removed and restored after the mechanical installation. Life safety improvements included the installation of a new sprinkler system throughout the renovated floors and standpipes in the exit stairs. Camp Airy Bunkhouses and Bathhouses Thurmont, Maryland Twenty new 1,000 s.f. bunkhouses and five new bathhouses, arranged in five quads connected internally by a series of wood decks and walkways. All structures are naturally ventilated by screened clerestories, which also provide natural light. The project included the removal of excess impervious paved areas, new landscaping and plantings, development of a new central basketball arena, and a new canteen for the sale of snack food and camp paraphernalia.
